The Human Cyborg

Humanoid broadcast a conference on cybernetics today for the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Speaker Professor Kevin Warwick is world famous for his research into directly interfacing computer systems with the human nervous system.

Project Cyborg created a media storm when Professor Warwick embedded an RFID transmitter into his own nervous system, becoming the world's first human cyborg. The implant gave him the power to control lights, doors, heaters and other computer-actuated devices, including a robotic hand thousands of miles away.

Live from Stafford Television Studio, Professor Warwick expounded his research and took questions from studio and online audience members about the future potential of cybernetic implants for medical and consumer technology.

Taking Patient Care to the Next Level

Stafford Hospital executives commissioned Humanoid for a series of short videos promoting the Mid Staffs NHS Foundation Trust's "Taking Patient Care to the Next Level" management development initiative.

The videos – covering measures by the executive and staff to improve the Stafford patient experience – feature interviews with affected patients and team members across a range of departments. The clips premiered at the NHS Confederation's annual conference, attended by senior NHS leadership.

Simon Kent, Executive Office Programme Manager for the Trust, explains the project: "the intention was to use tools and techniques to improve patient care and safety. I asked Humanoid to capture the improvements and patients' views in readiness to showcase our successful programme to the rest of the NHS."

The videos are soon to be available on the NHS Confederation's website and published online by the Guardian Newspaper.

Open Day Event

Once again, Humanoid sent film crews throughout both Staffordshire University campuses, capturing proceedings at one of their many open days. The teams conducted interviews with prospective students to get their thoughts on the day.

Demonstrations and talks were running across all faculties, with engaging displays at the TV centre, newsroom, automotive and robotic engineering labs, crime house and courtrooms. This was a great opportunity for Humanoid to capture footage of the University in full swing for future interviews.
